Almost 300 gaming machines, a delicatessen, two restaurants, and a gift shop comprise the entire 7,000-square-foot facility fifteen minutes from Lander in Fort Washakie. The Northern Arapaho Tribe own another of the Wyoming Indian casinos located in Riverton in a verdant valley near the magnificent Wind River mountains. This location is set on the third biggest Native American reservation in the country. Of the few Wyoming casinos available, Wind River is the most popular and the largest. Three of the most crowd-pleasing table games include Texas Hold ‘Em, blackjack, and Three Card Poker. Slot fans love the variety of choice in gaming machines, which total 750 and include progressive jackpots, video reels, and poker. Ticket in and out machines are widely available, as are bank machines and change counters. The casino aims to educate visitors on the history of the Northern Arapaho tribe through storytelling, song, and dance during performances three days per week during the summer.

The Northern Arapaho Tribe offers another, smaller casino for gambling in Wyoming called Little Wind Casino. Little Wind is in Ethete, 40 minutes from Riverton. Gambling in Wyoming at Little Wind is fairly limited in casino games, but still exciting. There are 170 gaming machines to choose between and tables featuring blackjack. Blackjack stands strong at the casino with small minimum bets and maximum bets totaling only a few hundred dollars. Anyone willing to travel the short 40 minutes to larger Wind River Casino can enjoy free blackjack lessons on Saturdays. Little Wind Casino features delicious home-style dining at the onsite restaurant. The gaming section is open from 3 p.m. to 1 a.m. Monday through Thursday and from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Sundays.
Though there are only a few choices currently for gambling in Wyoming, several resident tribes are applying for permits after encouragement and support from the government. It likely won’t be long before there are more Wyoming casinos built but the existing casinos do provide a great experience revolving around Las Vegas-style gambling. And don’t forget about the many other attractions within Wyoming like Grand Teton National Park and the Buffalo Bill Museum.
CASPER, Wyo. — The Northern Arapaho Business Council announced on Friday, Nov. 6 that tribal casions and other gaming facilities will close due to a surge in COVID-19 cases in Fremont County.
“The Wind River Hotel & Casino and other Tribal gaming facilities will be temporarily closed beginning at 12:01 a.m. Monday, Nov. 9, and continuing through Nov. 30,” the Northern Arapaho Business Council said. “It is hoped the establishments can re-open on Dec. 1, if conditions warrant. Casino employees will continue to be employed, though some may temporarily transition into other roles during the closure.”
The release said that no layoffs, furloughs or pay reductions will be implemented at this time.
Fremont County has a total of 401 active laboratory confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 as of Friday, according to the Wyoming Department of Health. The state as a whole added a record 917 new lab confirmed cases on Friday.
There were also a record 147 COVID-19 in hospitals across Wyoming on Friday, according to the WDH.
Northern Arapaho Business Council Chairman Lee Spoonhunter said there has been “no indication the casino is a source of virus spread in our community, but Tribal health authorities have urged the Business Council to temporarily close these facilities due to surging case numbers in Fremont
Spoonhunter was diagnosed with COVID-19 earlier this week, but the Northern Arapaho Business Council said his symptoms have been mild.
“He is in quarantine and continues to work on behalf of the Northern Arapaho Tribe,” the release states. “Also beginning Monday, Nov. 9, some Tribal departments will be open to the public reduced hours in order to prevent people from congregating and protect against COVID-19.”
“Other offices will temporarily be closed to the public or conduct business via telephone only. Offices with reduced hours – including Enrollment, Finance and others – will be open to the public every weekday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Critical departments and services, such as sanitation, food delivery, elder services and law enforcement, will not be affected.”
